What I like about the 1st mvt

by Anne-Sophie Mutter | March 21, 2013

You all know about Dvořák and the new world and that's where I'm talking to you from. So let me tell you about Dvořák and America first and then, as you can see, I have chosen some of my favourite bits from the 1st movement to illustrate how wonderful this violin concerto is.

My team at DG has been so kind as to attach specific musical examples to the end of what I say. Also, big thank you's to the Berliner Philharmoniker, their Digital Concert Hall and Manfred Honeck on the one hand, and the Cologne Philharmonie, the Sinfonia Varsovia and Michael Francis on the other for making it possible to show you the video excerpts.

Presenting the 2nd mvt

by Anne-Sophie Mutter | April 30, 2013

I'm back with some more insights for you on the 2nd movement. With the help of the Berliner Philharmoniker's Digital Concert Hall as well as the Sinfonia Varsovia and the Cologne Philharmonie, I'm delighted to introduce my favourite parts to you.

I also have a little question for you, which is part of the first video. It's about producing colour on the violin, something that's so important to this slow movement. Send your answers to me via DG's email address: deutschegrammophon@umusic.com

I also have a theory on why Joseph Joachim, the famous virtuoso of the time and the work's dedicatee, never actually played the work in public. That's in the last clip, scrolling to the right.

The Recording - Day #2

by Anne-Sophie Mutter | June 20, 2013

Another busy day at the Philharmonie. We started with a listening session in the "control room", way up above the stage at the Philharmonie, where the recording team have their equipment. Together with my recording producer, Arend Prohmann, and tonmeister (sound engineer), Stephan Flock, we analyzed the material we had recorded on day 1 and made plans of what we needed to concentrate on in the session later in the day.

That session then went... Well, let me tell you about it!

It's there!

by Anne-Sophie Mutter | July 09, 2013

We have reached the end of the post-production process, when the musical child needs to be “born”. It’s difficult to let that child go, but we have to close the books and let it fly. Today at the Bavaria Musikstudios in Münich, together with my wonderful team, recording producer Arend Prohmann, and tonmeister (sound engineer) Stephan Flock, I listened to the latest version that they had brought with them and approved it.

Drawing back the cloth in Berlin...

by Anne-Sophie Mutter | October 05, 2013

This is the official birthday of my Dvořák concerto recording. I'm back in Berlin to make the first public presentation of the recording to fans at an event in the famous Dussmann cultural store in the Friedrichstrasse in Berlin.

I spoke in conversation with Christoph Streuli, a member of the Berliner Philharmoniker, and afterwards signed autographs for my fans. One little girl brought along her current violin music for me to sign. A great pleasure.

TV appearance on ZDF morgenmagazin

by Anne-Sophie Mutter | November 12, 2013

I got up really early this morning, and I mean REALLY EARLY (!) to appear on ZDF-Morgenmagazin, the main breakfast show of German public service TV (shared with ARD). I did two live interviews with moderator Dunja Hayali in two different studios and also played twice with Ayami Ikeba. Wow. It was a lot!

I enjoyed the experience and I think it turned out well. See my video and behind-the-scenes photos. Thank you to ZDF for theirs too. You can watch the whole program here.
